Catching a Few Rays

Catching a Few Rays, originally uploaded by emmacuesta.

This is in the nature of a snapshot. On my way back to the exit I took a "shortcut" through the rain forest section and this GIGANTIC iguana was sitting on a rock near one of the waterfalls, just sunning itself. It knew I was there and gave me enough time for a single photo before it scurried away.

God, that's beautiful. The textures are fantastic. Not to mention I love iguanas. Something about the skin I think. This was your only shot? I'm impressed, it's a lovely one.

Iguanas are very skittish and I was working with a short lens. The lucky thing was some of them have been around Fairchild forever and they are used to people, so they will not scurry off immediately. They are not native to the park, you see; people buy them as pets and when they realize they have a miniature dinosaur on their hands they smuggle them into Fairchild and release them.

Beautiful photograph. The detail in the picture is wonderful.

Thanks. I love the iguanas... as photo subjects. But they are difficult at times. This old guy, though, he just didn't care. Sat in the sun and waited until I took the picture!
