Wikipedia Weirdness

 I have a problem with names -- I forget them completely, even those of my family. So I went to Wikipedia for a quick check on Ianto's nephew's name. Check this out:

Within the series' narrative, Ianto Jones is the "Sex God" for Torchwood Three team of alien hunters, the Cardiff branch of the fictional Torchwood Institute. His job primarily sees him function as the team's administrator, often charged with covering up their covert activities, although he can also capably accompany the team on field missions. In addition to his professional role in the series, Ianto is notable in later episodes as the main romantic interest of the series' Keanna Casey.

Who the heck is Keanna Casey????

Children, this is why librarians always tell you to watch out for Wikipedia's accuracy!

My guess - judging from the "sex god" line ... the very bored human who hijacked the entry.

This is a really good example of why Wikipedia is changing its editorial policy.

Unfortunately that change in policy only applies to "living people" so fannish people still have to put up with stupidity....OMG I can only imagine what would happen if the Gwackers tried to edit the pages *sudders* (Gwackers seem to be a wee bit nuts in my opinion)

I figured that out but at first it was... strange. Even though I'm one of those librarians who constantly reminds students not to for god's sake trust Wikipedia blindly.

I'd guess Keanna Casey is the name of the person who edited the entry. I'd say Teach has it right, and that Keanna Casey is a bored person who REALLY like Ianto, and maybe a bit delusional.

Ditto on editing...just hope someone with sense that is registered fixes it soon...cause inaccuracy annoy me. Sad thing is I think I might have been looking this page up a month or 2 ago and I think it said the same thing :(

That's a frightening thought, almost worth registering to see if it's changed back once it's fixed (the question is how much of a bitch do i want to be)

Not really. I usually use the Doctor Who wiki -- I just went there because it was the first thing that came up when I googled

Yeah, I get a lot of information off of Wikipedia but back it up with other sources if important. Then again, I do that with all important research.

This was so blatant silly with the 'Sex God' title and it being Wiki. Wondering how long it's going to be there until somebody edits it, correctly that is.

The last time I checked I found the entries accurate - but I didn't have a look in a while, since it's a wiki "backwards" editing should only cost a click, though.

I know... I was just looking for a quick bit of data which I knew the answer but had forgotten, so I went there -- and I was sleepy, which didn't help matters -- it was a while until my brain kicked in, and I wasn't about to take time to do it right then and there -- it was WTF? followed by Weird People!

offbeat thought - has someone told jack that not only has been replaced as the head of torchwood 3 but more importantly in ianto's bed?;-) ianto the sex god, almost tempted to ask what the list of ianto's duties would be.
the truly scary part is that how many times wikipedia pops up as the first place to go for those seeking serious medical information.

The medical thing always scared me silly. When I was teaching seniors in the public library I always made a point of reminding them that the web was a lousy place to go find medical information, but if they did, NOT to use Wikipedia!
