Summary: After the events of Bloodbath, Tim McGee accepts a offer from a total stranger
Author's Note: A few weeks ago I was watching some NCIS episodes and came across Bloodbath. I hated both Abby and Gibbs in it. I hated the humiliation of making Tim kneel all day for something that was someone else's fault. I fumed for days (I am a bit obssessive about things from time to time). Then, a few days ago, this popped up. As usual, AU like nobody's business.

Part one here; Part two here; Part three here; Part four is here

Tim stretched out his legs comfortably and studied his former colleagues as Ducky walked everyone in the room through the details of the autopsy. Vance had the look of someone whose brain was being forcefully rearranged;Tim gave him points for perseverance. Ziva sat with Tish and Martha, obviously evaluating each piece of evidence as if she were working a regular case. Abby was keeping her bouncing to a minimum, sucking up all the information and probably figuring out what tests she could run on the tissue samples. Tony seemed to take it all in stride, but Tim knew he was in for an epic interrogation. Basically, after the first moment of shock, they had all settled into their usual patterns.

But Gibbs... Gibbs was different. Gibbs had not been surprised. At all.

He tapped the implant behind his right ear. Mimi, he subvocalized, let's look for any connection between Gunnery Sergeant Leroy Jethro Gibbs and the Captain. No matter how slight.

Trouble?

Probably not, but let's make sure.

Tony watched  the MTAC geeks file out, most of them looking curiously over their shoulders at the assembled group. He commandeered the aisle chair on the fourth row from where he could watch the whole room. If the look on Vance's face was any indication, they were in for a hell of a briefing.

Gibbs was harder to read. He had on what Tony privately called his sniper's look; the calm that came when all the planning was done and all it remained was to take the shot.  But underneath that there was something like shock, and that scared Tony out of his mind.

“Doctor Mallard, Doctor Palmer, and Doctor Jones are on their way.” Vance said. “Mr. Jones, MTAC is all yours.”

“Thank you, Director.”

The young man took off his jacket and rolled up his sleeves. He was wearing a wide, thick leather cuff. Tony heard a faint snap as part of the leather folded back to reveal a metal plate studded with buttons. Jones tapped them in a short one two – pause – one two sequence. A few seconds later all the workstations, which Tony had seen locked down and secured a few minutes before, turned themselves on. Masses of what looked like data scrolled up, too fast for the human eye to read, and then all the screens, including the large one, showed a large red T made out of locking hexagons.

Jones stepped back. “Irish, would you do the honors?”

“Where the hell have you been, Probie?”

The nickname, once a source of irritation, only made Tim grin. “Here, there, and everywhere, Tony. Jack believes travel broadens the mind.”

They were sitting around the bullpen. Jack, Ianto, and Gibbs had disappeared upstairs into Vance's office, leaving them to wait while all the diplomatic and political niceties were ironed out. Tim had introduced Tish, who had been promptly whisked away  by Ziva for the feminine ritual of freshening up. Left alone with Tony, he had braced himself for the barrage of questions.

“What I really want to know is, how did you,” Tony wiggled his fingers towards the workstation on his desk, “do what you did.”

“What I did?”

Tony snorted. “When we started looking for you, we couldn't find any records. Not employment records, no school records, no passport, not even the lease on your apartment. If your mother hadn't had a copy of your birth certificate, we couldn't have even proved you had been born!”

 First part is here

Four Years Later

Senior Field Agent Anthony DiNozzo stared at the man standing on the narrow beam that swung freely from the hook of the tower crane, fourteen or fifteen stories above the ground. Tony couldn't see the man's face, but he got an impression of a lean, strong body and incredible self-assurance, like a tightrope walker. The man was wearing dark jeans and what looked like a leather jacket over a white t-shirt, but he was too high up for Tony to make out any facial features.

"He's going to end up a smear on that pile of bricks if he's not careful," he muttered

“I don't think so.” His partner, Ziva David, leaned against the car, shading her eyes as she looked upwards. “He knows what he's doing.”

As if to prove her point, the man launched himself into the air. As he fell he grabbed a cable that hung loosely from the crane's hook and swung in a wide arc to land on the half-finished floor of the building behind him. It seemed to Tony that he was moving before his feet even touched the ground. He heard Ziva's little whoosh as she expelled the breath she had been holding.

Taft Bridge

Rock Creek Park
2:00am

“It's a long way down.”

Tim rested his head on the concrete base of the eagle lamppost. “I'm not planning to jump.”

“Well, thanks the Vortex for that. I'd hate to think that I came all the way from Cardiff to find you just in time to watch you splatter your brains on the Parkway.”

The words jerked Tim out of the suffocating fog that had wrapped itself around him from the moment he had spoken to Sarah. Her mockery had been, he supposed, the most fitting ending to a miserable day. He had stumbled out of his apartment and wandered the streets of DC for hours, not really knowing where he was and where he was going. It was just his luck that he had ended up in a place where NCIS often did business.

He turned, hand gripping the butt of his SIG Sauer. The man facing him, hands held loosely away from his body, took handsome to ridiculous lengths. Tall, with brown hair shot through with gold that gleamed in the lamplight, eyes that looked dark but he would bet were blue, and the smile of someone who had done it all and would happily go back for seconds. But it was the RAF topcoat that made him nearly swallow his tongue.

“You're Captain Jack Harkness,” he blurted. “Torchwood. It's real? You're for real?”

The smile widened into lasciviousness. “You want me to prove it?”

“Jack. Let's not scare off Mr. McGee.”

“Jack.... Ianto... well, Jack and Ianto... and now Andy and Carlos. Though not like Jack and Ianto, but still!” Rhys peered owlishly into his beer. “It's an ep... an epi... an epidemic, that's what it is.”

Howls of laughter greeted the pronouncement. Jack sipped his ale and enjoyed the chaos. They had taken over the team's favorite pub for Rhys's bachelors party. It seemed to Jack that every male above the age of consent in Cardiff was crammed into the small, low-ceilinged room. His own half-brother Andras sat a few places away, explaining the concept of dietary restrictions to Banana Boat while the eavesdropping Prince of Wales tried valiantly not to snicker. Across from them, Andy, Ianto, and Aaron ben Joseph were deep into a spirited argument about the Six Nations tournament.

“It sure is, mate.” Owen clapped Rhys on the shoulder, nearly propelling him face-first into the beer. “And you are patient zero. A toast!” He stood up, raising his glass. “To our gloriously pissed bridegroom!”

There was no doubt that Anne Cavanaugh was a de Gray; she had the height, the honey-blond hair, and the sharp Norman features. But where Leonora seemed carved out of the finest ivory, Anne was more like plastic. A flawed copy of the real thing.

“Anne, why are you doing this?” Leonora held herself like a princess. “Where is Alexander?"

The stream chortled its way between banks strewn with Welsh poppies. Peach and pear trees hung heavy with ripening fruit. The air carried the scent of rain and a whiff of the city beyond the hills. In the distance, snow-capped mountains stood sentinel over the countryside.

Jack had to admit the Toshiko's cloister was spectacular.

“She says it's a real place, a few miles from Cardiff.” Ianto said drowsily. “The place I remember doesn't look quite like this. Someday I'd like to visit.”

The Tosh avatar breathed the words so only Jack could hear. He had to agree with her. Somewhere, Jack knew, there was a secondary gyroscope keeping the station in orbit with full gravity.

I suppose I owe you all an explanation.

After I made my
brave post about starting to write again regularly, I went for a mammogram. It was to be the last of the bi-annual, five-years-after-treatment one, the one that would declare me cancer free.

Instead, they found something. Not a lump, quite, but something.

There were consultations. There was research (you know me!). After thinking about it a while, I decided.

I went in for surgery two weeks ago. I am still waiting for
the pathology results. See, the slides had to be sent "for further review."  So it's either very good news, very bad news, or very weird news. Considering me, probably all three.

I am still writing, but my mind refuses to settle. It's the uncertainty. Once I know, once there's a battle plan drawn up, everything becomes clear and I'll be able to start regular writing again. After all, Tardis!Ianto is insisting that I get back to his Universe. Or else.

Disclaimer: Oh, please. If I owned them, would I let some of those idiots write the scripts? And if I were making any money off them, would I be where they could find me?
Summary: Death comes for us all in the end. Or does it?

Lupus is a constellation that can be seen from the Southern sky of Terra. The name is Latin for wolf. Lupus was one of the 48 constellations listed by the 2nd century astronomer Ptolemy, and it remains one of the 88 modern constellations. One of its most interesting features is a large nebula commonly known as “the Dark Wolf” by Humans and “the Bad Wolf” by the Traveling Folk. Very odd tales are told about the Bad Wolf. The oddest one happens to be true.

Jack sat with his back pressed against the cold metal of the observation deck bulkhead, watching supply freighters stream out of the 456 ships. “He didn't tell me.”

I turned back from the painting I had been examining. “You knew.”

Jack's request had sent me running from the conservatory, but not before I had seen the look on Ianto's face. He had looked worried, yes, but not surprised. Panicked, I had headed for the one place in the Gray house where I would feel safe. In the gallery, surrounded by my works, track lighting subtly enhancing the lushness of bloom and leaf, I could avoid thinking about the Talent I had buried the day I had buried my husband.

“Have I finally managed to shock you, my captain?”

Jack stared at the exquisite golden form in front of him. He hadn’t known what to expect; Ai-Shi had refused to discuss any aspect of her conversion. Now he realized that, in spite of everything he knew about cybernetic technology, part of him had been bracing for a Cyberman, a heavy, clumsy, metal Frankenstein with antennas and switches sticking out all over. Instead he was looking at a perfect female body made of interlocking silver and gold rings etched with delicate patterns that Jack suspected were actually circuitry. They gleamed as she moved, revealing and concealing at the same time. It was a body that made no pretense to being flesh and blood but raised the human shape into a work of art. He looked into the space where the human face would have been, and found Ai-Shi looking back at him, gold and silver but unmistakeably herself.

Ahem. Ah. Hello.

Yes, it's me. I'm alive, and doing much better. Fic will resume tonight, as a matter of fact, for anyone still interested.

However....

There are going to be a few changes.

I am going to finally complete the job of getting all the links here to point to... well.. here. Then I am taking down the livejournal site. But for those who really hate dreamwidth, I am going to start archiving my fic with Archive of Our Own while I explore other possibilities. For those interested, the Livejournal site will switch (I hope) to discussing classic mystery works -- one of my old passions.

Meanwhile, in the fic world, I'm going to do a few things:

1. Finish all the unfinished stuff, including completing season 2 of Queen's Magicians, the Criminal Minds Crossover, and the Angel of Death. There's other stuff floating around but that's for last, I think.

2. There are some outstanding stuff. TARDIS!Ianto has made a reappearance, insisting I tell his namesake's story. There's also a final one-shot for that Universe. In Celtic Men, there's the last story to go to close that one off.

If I work really hard at this, I can finish by early next year.

And then?

I don't know. My fandom mind seems to run in one direction only, and that's Jack/Ianto. I haven't read fanfic in a while -- I hope to catch up with some of my favorites -- but.. is anyone still interested? How many of you have moved on to other fandoms, or do you mix them up?

And finally, why hadn't anyone mentioned Sherlock Holmes, the series? A girl needs a heads up from time to time!

So... showtime. Here we go.

My mother's favorite poem is Fire and Ice by Robert Frost. I once asked her why, of all the words of all the authors she had studied, all the great poets, playwrights and novelists, she loved that little nine-line stanza with no set meter or rhyme the most. It teaches you what to look for, she had said, and refused to say anything else, although she smiled as if keeping a secret. At the time I'd thought it had been just another symptom of her illness.

Now I understood what she meant. I understood her the moment I'd looked into Jack Harkness's icy blue eyes and seen my own death.
